SUSTAINABLE LOCAL(RURAL) LIVELIHOODS

The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) brought sudden, drastic and unexpected changes to almost every aspect of individual and social life. Governments and institutions have had to adjust and adapt their operations and mitigation strategies to the changing dynamics of the increasingly challenging pandemic; and to be proactive about its future impact. Emerging trends, documents and expert opinions are already projecting massive and long-lasting impact and the less privileged population as likely to be the most affected, to suffer most from trickle down effects and less likely to recover quickly from both the micro- and macro-level impact of the corona pandemic.

Using a mixed methods approach, including Geospatial analysis, This project aims to investigate how the pandemic impacts livelihoods assets in selected rural areas, and the ways in which government and institutions in such places adjust and adapt their operations and response strategies to address the impact of the pandemic on livelihood resources/assets. The study also seeks to understand how public, private and civic organizations are being proactive about future impact of the pandemic on livelihood assets/resources in rural areas.
