Research Title:

Governance and policy implementation – a case study of food security programmes in the OR Tambo District of South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province

Governments are increasing their investments in various activities aimed at ensuring food security, such as increasing expenditures and increasing social security, especially to vulnerable groups. Even with huge investments in improving the food security status of vulnerable groups, the impact of such interventions has been minimal. Successful food security interventions require good governance. While good governance may not be the only requirement for the successful implementation of food security interventions, it is likely to contribute to improving their implementation and thus, their impact. This study seeks to understand the nexus between good governance and food security within the context of rural development. The study also seeks to better understand good governance and how it can be improved in the implementation of food security programmes.
